Steal A Tree Controls
WASD or thumb stick, grab the cube, sprint home, and hit the plot pads that actually print juice.
Steal A Tree controls are simple. Missing them is expensive. A grab that does not register in a gnome garden is a wasted approach. A vat prompt you stand too far from is fruit sitting in your hands. A codes button you never open is how you miss a real Steps drop — when one exists. This page is the PC and mobile map, then the plot UI, then the mistakes that look like “the game is broken” and are usually your feet.
Use it with Getting Started for the first hour and with How to Steal Trees for the chase. Speed you cannot buy with a keybind lives on treadmill and speed.
PC
- Move with WASD. Camera with the mouse. Do not steer with random jumps; jumps add tag time.
- Interact with E or a click on the highlighted prompt: grab sapling, plant, harvest, vat, treadmill, Index pads, shop rows.
- Sprint while carrying. Hold it the entire run home. Tapping sprint does not beat a later gnome.
- Stop interacting when you need to drop a bad idea. If a gnome is about to tag you on a rare you should not have touched, the sapling will drop on tag anyway. Do not keep strafing in the garden hoping E saves you.
- Open plot UI from the on-plot buttons or the HUD, not from a pause menu you do not have. Vat, treadmill, Index, pets, and codes are plot-level, not Roblox settings.
If E does nothing, you are out of range or looking at the wrong object. Step onto the pad. Aim at the cube, the fruit, or the vat lip. Click the prompt if E is fighting another nearby interact.
Mobile and tablet
- Move with the thumb stick. Keep the stick pushed toward home the moment a grab confirms. Partial stick is how tags happen on later gardens.
- Tap the on-screen prompt to grab, plant, harvest, and juice. The prompt appears when you are close. If it does not appear, walk closer, not farther around the gnome.
- Sprint is an on-screen hold or toggle depending on your Roblox jump/sprint layout. Find it in a safe plot before you enter a garden. Discovering sprint mid-chase is how cubes land in the lane.
- Use thumbs, not a tiny corner tap, for Index, pets, and codes buttons. Those buttons sit in the plot HUD. They are easy to miss if you only look at the stick.
- Portrait play works. Landscape gives you more lane to see the gnome facing. Either way, do not cover the interact prompt with your thumb.
Servers are 6-player online, not local co-op. Mobile players compete with PC players for the same cubes. Your stick has to be honest.
Plot UI: what each button is for
- Vat — the rusty juice machine. Stand on or at the vat and interact to dump fruit. Capacity and juice speed upgrades are why you have cash. If the prompt fails, you are holding nothing or you are not on the pad. Full spend order: juice upgrades.
- Treadmill — stand on the belt to earn Steps. This is not a jump pad. Stay on it while the vat presses. Upgrade toward Iron Treadmill before Trails. Details: Treadmill Speed.
- Index — the live catalog of trees, fruit, mutations, and pets you have obtained. Open it after every new look. Claim discovery rewards. Do not treat the Index as optional flavor.
- Pets — plot helpers that sit on the pad and help juice, steals, or speed. Open this after the vat and belt are not starving. Obtain methods: how to get pets.
- Codes — the redeem field. When a public string exists it typically grants Steps or Speed. As of 12 September 2026 there are no confirmed public codes. Still learn where the button is. Hub: Codes. Steps: how to redeem.
Planting is an interact on an empty plot slot. Harvesting is an interact on ripe fruit. Neither happens from across the plot. Walk to the tree.
Carry, tag, and drop
Grab puts a sapling in your hands. Movement slows or at least commits you to sprint. A gnome tag drops that sapling. There is usually no separate “throw” you should hunt for in settings; the tag is the drop. Scoop the cube only if the gnome peeled off. On later gardens, leave it. That decision is the whole steal guide.
Do not open the Index, pets, or codes HUD in the middle of a carry. Menus do not outrun gnomes.
First-session control drill
- Claim a plot. Stand on the vat pad and confirm the juice prompt.
- Stand on the treadmill and confirm Steps are ticking.
- Open Index, pets, and codes once so you know the buttons.
- Walk to a starter garden, grab a glowing cube sapling, sprint home, plant.
- Harvest, vat, treadmill. Repeat until the prompts feel boring.
- Only then enter a later garden. If the grab misses twice, you have a range problem, not a rare-tree problem.
Mistakes that look like input bugs
- Mashing E while looking at the gnome instead of the sapling.
- Standing a step off the vat pad with a full stack of fruit.
- Searching Roblox settings for a codes menu that lives on the plot HUD.
- Playing mobile with sprint unbound, then blaming the gnome.
- Opening pets during a carry.
- Jumping as a movement habit. Jumps are extra air, extra tag.
- Assuming a speed key exists that replaces treadmill Steps. It does not.
Learn the prompts on your plot, then steal cubes until grab-sprint-plant is one motion. Later gardens punish extra menus, extra jumps, and extra distance. If a control still feels wrong after that drill, you need Steps, not a different key. Put the device down on the belt, juice the harvest, and come back to the gnome when the prompt and the speed match. That is the control guide: fewer missed interacts, fewer tagged rares, more fruit in the vat.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Steal A Tree players ask after every weekend patch.
What are the PC controls for Steal A Tree?
WASD to move, E or click to interact (grab, plant, harvest, vat), and hold sprint during a carry. Plot HUD opens vat, treadmill, Index, pets, and codes. First-hour route: Getting Started.
How do I play Steal A Tree on mobile?
Thumb stick to move, tap prompts to grab and juice, and bind sprint before you enter a garden. Walk closer if a prompt does not appear. Same steal rules as PC: How to Steal Trees.
Where is the codes button?
On the plot HUD, not in Roblox settings. As of 12 September 2026 there are no confirmed public codes. When one exists it usually grants Steps or Speed. See Codes and how to redeem.
Why does interact not work on the vat or a sapling?
You are out of range or aimed at the wrong object. Step onto the pad, look at the cube or vat lip, and use E or the tap prompt. Jumping around the gnome will not help.
Is there a key that makes me fast enough for later gnomes?
No. Sprint helps. Steps come from the treadmill, then Trails after Iron Treadmill. Read treadmill and speed.
Does a gnome tag need a drop button?
A tag drops the carried sapling. Scoop only if the path home is still clear. Later gardens: leave the drop. Full chase: How to Steal Trees.
